Pokhara Metropolitan City has taken another big step toward promoting accessible education by awarding full scholarships to 497 SEE graduates for their Grade 11 studies. This program aims to help deserving students, especially those from low-income and economically disadvantaged communities, by offering them a chance to continue their education without worring about money.
The city administration says that these scholarships are available across multiple academic fields, which helps students follow their interests and career goals.
Scholarship Distribution Across Key Streams
The Metropolitan City chose candidates based on merit after holding a competitive scholarship exam on Saturday. Here is the breakdown of the chosen candidates by stream:
- Science: 162 students
- Management: 201 students
- Hotel Management: 80 students
- Law, Humanities, and Education: 14 students
The allocation reflects the city’s effort to diversify opportunities beyond traditional streams like Science and Management, extending to vocational and social sciences as well.
Transparent Evaluation Using OMR Technology
To ensure a fairness and transparency on selection process, the city used Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) technology to evaluate the answer sheets. This marks a progressive shift toward digitizing public examinations, minimizing human error, and improving reliability.
“This year, to make the scholarship selection exam more organized, dignified, and reliable, OMR technology was used for checking,” said Mayor Dhana Raj Acharya, underlining the city’s commitment to a credible evaluation process.
Students Must Confirm Admission by Asadh 25
The Metropolitan City has instructed all 497 selected students to contact the Education Division no later than Asadh 25 (July 9) to begin their admission process. Once verified, students will be enrolled in designated institutional schools across Pokhara for free Grade 11 education.
To avoid delays or confusion, all recommended schools have been officially directed to admit these students without conditions. No additional entrance tests or fees will be required.

A Continuing Annual Program
Pokhara has made this scholarship program an annual initiative, reinforcing its goal to make secondary education inclusive. The city aims to support students from underrepresented groups, including those from low-income families, remote communities, and underserved ethnic groups.
Last year, a similar number of scholarships were distributed, and city officials hope to expand the program further based on future educational needs and budget availability.
