The Education Department of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has announced the opening of applications for the Grade 11 Scholarship Program for the academic year 2082/83 (2025/26). This opportunity is aimed at helping deserving students—especially from underprivileged backgrounds—pursue further education in institutional (private) schools within the metropolitan area.

Students who wish to apply for the scholarship must take part in a competitive entrance examination, and are requested not to enroll in any institution until the scholarship results are published.

 Important Dates

  • Online Application Open: Ashadh 18, 2082 (from 10:00 AM)
  • Application Deadline: Ashadh 27, 2082 (until 11:59 PM)
  • Scholarship Exam Date: Shrawan 3, 2082 (8:00 AM – 10:00 AM)
  • Application Fee: Free of charge

 Streams Available

Scholarships are available for the following Grade 11 programs:

  • Science
  • Management
  • Humanities
  • Education
  • Law
  • Technical/Vocational

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the KMC scholarship, applicants must meet at least one of the following conditions:

  • Must have passed the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) with a minimum GPA of 1.6
  • Must have studied in a community (government) school
  • Must have completed SEE under the 10% institutional school scholarship quota
  • Must be a permanent resident of:

    • Wards 1, 2, or 3 of landfill-affected areas in KMC
    • Wards 1, 3, or 4 of Dhunibeshi Rural Municipality

Scholarship Seat Distribution

Scholarship seats will be divided as per the 10% quota policy of institutional schools, treated as 100% for this program. Allocation will be as follows:

  • 40% – Students from community schools
  • 5% – Students from private schools under the 10% scholarship program
  • 9% – Permanent residents of Kathmandu Metropolitan City
  • 1% – Students from landfill-affected areas studying in local schools

Entrance Examination Structure

The SEE (Class 10) curriculum will be the basis for the scholarship test. It will consist of:

  • 100 multiple-choice questions (MCQs)
    • 30 from Mathematics
    • 30 from Science
    • 30 from English
    • 10 from General Knowledge
  • Exam Duration: 2 hours
  • Minimum Pass Mark: 40
  • Negative Marking: None

Note: Students may apply to only one stream. Multiple applications will be disqualified.

Applicants must upload the following documents during the online application:

  • SEE Admit Card
  • SEE Grade Sheet and Character Certificate
  • Recent Passport-Sized Photo
  • Citizenship Certificate or Birth Registration
  • Schedule 1 Recommendation Letter (for community school students)
  • Schedule 2 Recommendation Letter (for institutional school scholarship students)
  • Documents proving eligibility under the reserved quota
  • Relevant certificate mentioned under Section 7 of the scholarship form
